Visiting Vandals claim three of six singles matches and doubles point
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Temple women's tennis team welcomed the University of Idaho to Arthur Ashe Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 16. The Owls dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the Vandals.
In doubles play, the point was up for grabs after the squads split decisions at the first and second flights. After Idaho claimed the number one match, Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Lucie Pazderova brought the doubles bouts even with an 8-1 win over Daniela Cohen and Yvette Ly at number two. The Vandals earned the point with an 8-4 decision at the third flight.
Idaho jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins at the first and second singles flights. Katharina Mittag made things interesting when she took a straight-set victory over Barbara Maciocha at number six, 6-4, 6-2. The Vandals came right back, however, and secured the win with a win at number three.
Other singles winners for the Cherry & White were Rukavyshnykova at the number four spot (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) and May Johnson at number five (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).
Temple falls to 4-7 overall and will play again on Friday, March 19, at Richmond. Idaho is 14-1.
