Rukavyshnykova and Stangl win singles matches for Temple
NORFOLK, Va. - The Temple women's tennis team was in action in Virginia for the second-straight day, falling to Old Dominion, 5-2, on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The Owls fall to 4-9 on the season.
The Owls are playing the weekend a player down, so fall behind 1-0 immediately and cannot field a third doubles team.
Old Dominion claimed the doubles point with wins at one and two. Theresa Stangl and May Johnson nearly pulled out the win at number two, forcing a tiebreaker over Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva before falling 8-7 (5).
In singles play, the Monarchs left no doubt by winning their first three singles bouts finished at one, five and four, to move ahead 5-0. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Stangl closed the match with wins at the second and third flights, but it was too little, too late.
Temple returns home for a match with Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne on Saturday, March 27 at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
