Owls peg seven incoming freshman, two transfers
PHILADELPHIA – Temple head men's soccer coach David MacWilliams has announced the commitment of nine student-athletes, Drayt Friedman, Jake Lister, Nolan Hemmer, Sawyer Hemmer, Ryan Bradbury, Vaughn Spurrier, Sam Matthews, Cody Calafiore and Andrew Dodds, to begin their careers with the Owls during the 2010 season.
"We are very pleased with our 2010 recruiting class. We feel that this is one of our stronger recruiting classes in the last six years,” said MacWilliams. “We feel we have added a lot of quality players that can compete for starting positions and also add depth to our roster."
Friedman, a native of Malvern, Pa., is a 6'4 center back. At West Chester East last season, he was an All-Chest-Mont League and All-Area selection.
Lister is an outside back/midfielder from Exton, Pa. A solid attacking player, Lister was an All-Chest-Mont and All-League selection last year at West Chester Henderson. Both he and Friedman were members of the FC Delco USSF Academy.
Bradbury is another All-Chest-Mont and All-League honoree to sign with the Owls. A native of Exton, Pa. (Downingtown East), the central midfielder demonstrates good passing skills and a solid knowledge of the game.
Nolan Hemmer was named to Georgia's Region 8 AAAA Most Outstanding Player and a first team honoree. Sawyer, his twin brother, was also a first team member as a defenseman. The pair hails from Demester, Ga. and both play club ball for Concord Fire USSF Academy.
Spurrier, the Ohio State Player of the Year, is a very versatile player that can play both forward and midfield. The Cleveland, Ohio native was named to the 2009 NSCAA/adidas High School Boys All-America team.
Matthews, a native of Abington, Pa., possess both the size and tools necessary to be a solid keeper at the collegiate level. He was a 2009 Suburban One All-League selection.
Both Calafiore and Dodds are transfers from Monmouth University. Califore appeared in all 22 games for the Hawks in 2009, tallying three goals and two assists in 13 starts. He plays his club ball with the Howell Stikers, alongside current TU defender Billy Kappock.
Dodds, a local high school graduate of Haverford Prep where he was a two-time All-Main Line first team honoree, appeared in two games as a freshman at Monmouth. He plays for the FC Delco Dynamo club team.
