Varsity 8 wins heat and places third in finals

FAIRFAX STATION, VA - Led by a strong showing by its Varsity 8, the Temple women's crew had a solid day at the Occoquan Sprints held at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Va. on Sunday. The Owls' Varsity 8 placed third while the team's other three boats came in fifth.

The Varsity 8 boat won its heat and then placed third behind Bucknell and Duke while besting Old Dominion by less than a second. Loyola (Md.) and North Carolina placed fifth and sixth, respectively. The boat consisted of Isabella Bourbon (cox), Mary Webster (stroke), Allison Boc (7-seat), Taylor Wasserleben (6-seat), Bailey Chick (5-seat), Jeanine Lees (4-seat), Joanna Sutor (3-seat), Nicole Wagner (2-seat) and Brynn Moore (bow).

The Second Varsity 8, which edged George Mason by 1.7 seconds for fifth, was comprised by Erin Buchanan (cox), Paige O' Sullivan (stroke), Dana Meadows (7-seat), Kara Jackson (6-seat), Megan Welsh (5-seat), Kendra Dickerson (4-seat), Megan Hanlin (3-seat), Caitlin Pennington (2-seat) and Angela Flinn (bow).

The Owls Varsity 4, topped Georgetown by 6.5 seconds for fifth, was comprised by Alexis Coomey (cox), Ryan Ellenbaum (stroke), Allison Bates (3-seat), Ridgley (2-seat) and Claudia Loeber (bow).

The Temple Novice 8 also placed fifth to round out the Owls day on the river.

Temple next takes the river on Saturday when the Owls host the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill River.
