PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's track & field team opened their outdoor season Saturday afternoon with a tri-meet against city-rivals La Salle and Villanova, hosted at Villanova's Jumbo Elliot Track. The Owls owned ten first place finishes on the day, with senior Christiana Taylor boasting two.
The women's 4x400m relay, comprised of Tashima Stephens, Shadaya Bennett, Assata Cowart and Sheina Roberts, placed first and met ECAC qualifying marks with a time of 3:49.18.
Cowart also hit ECAC marks in the 400m hurdles, breaking the tape in a time of 1:01.47 for first place.
Taylor took top honors in the 100m hurdles (15.40) and 100m dash (12.75). Also in the 100m hurdles, freshman Jade Wilson placed second in a time of 15.44.
The Owls went one-two-three in the 400m, with Stephens in first (56.98), Bennett in second (58.61), and freshman Tonney Smith in third (59.17).
Junior Paris Williams ran the day's top time in the 800m, clocking in at 2:18.78. Senior Brittney McRae ran a first place time of 25.64 in the 200m, while junior Karrie Finn won the 5000m in a time of 18:50.06.
In the field, sophomore Ebony Moore took top honors in the discus with a toss of 123-06, while classmate Brittany Weston won the hammer throw with a distance of 138-07.
The Owls travel next to compete in the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary on April 2-3.
