PHILADELPHIA – A total of twelve athletes will represent the Temple women's track & field team this weekend at the ECAC Championships held in Boston, Mass. Combined, a total of 27 athletes the men's and women's teams will compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
Competing at the Penn State National Open, the 4x800 team snapped the school record with a time of 9:06.05. Running the relay this weekend will be junior Tashima Stephens, freshman Tonney Smith, freshman Tessa West, and junior Shadaya Bennett.
"This is the most qualifiers we have had to both the ECAC and IC4A Championships," commented head coach Eric Mobley. "It is just a credit to our athletes, and shows how our program continues to move in the right direction."
In the 4x400m, freshman Victoria Gocht teams with classmate Sheina Roberts, junior Paris Williams and senior Christian Taylor in hopes of besting their fastest time of the season set at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (3:45.54). Taylor will also compete in the pentathlon, owning a season-best score of 3384 points.
Gocht continues to have a sensational freshman debut, and will compete in the 800m run as well. The Dresher, Pa. native (Upper Dublin) bettered her school record and nearly met NCAA provisional marks at the New Balance Collegiate Inviational, running a time of 2:09.09. Stephens will also run the 800m in Boston, clocking in a time of 2:13.14 at the NYU FasTrack Invitational.
The trio of Bennett, Smith and West qualified for the 500m dash. Bennett nailed down a time of 1:15.50 at A-10's, while Smith qualified with a time of 1:15.61 at the NYU FasTrack Invitational and West met marks at the Armory on January 16 (1:15.71).
