Women's Crew Advances Two Boats To Knecht Cup Finals

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ -
The Temple women's crew team turned in a superb day on the Cooper River Saturday, qualifying two boats into Sunday's finals of the Knecht Cup.

The Varsity 8, comprised of Isabella Bourbon (cox), Mary Webster (stroke), Allison Boc (7-seat), Taylor Wasserleben (6-seat), Bailey Chick (5-seat), Jeanine Lees (4-seat), Joanna Sutor (3-seat), Nicole Wagner (2-seat) and Brynn Moore (bow), won its heat, besting city-rival Villanova by nearly four seconds.

The Owls then downed another city foe, Drexel in the semifinals to advance to Sunday's final (2:30 p.m.). Perennial A-10 Champion UMass placed third with another conference opponent, Fordham, finishing fourth.

Temple's 2nd Varsity 8, comprised of Erin Buchanan (cox), Paige O' Sullivan (stroke), Dana Meadows (7-seat), Kara Jackson (6-seat), Megan Welsh (5-seat), Kendra Dickerson (4-seat), Claudia Loeber
(3-seat), Caitlin Pennington (2-seat) and Angela Flinn (bow), placed third in its heat behind UMass and George Mason.

The Owls 2nd V8 rebounded to finish second in its semifinal race. Temple won a tight battle with four teams separates by 1.26 seconds, edging Rutgers by .24 seconds with George Mason .41 seconds behind RU and Delaware less than a second behind GMU.

The grand final for the 2nd Varsity 8 commences at 12:50 p.m. Sunday.

The Owls' Varsity 4 failed to qualify for the grand final, finishing fifth in its initial heat and sixth in its semifinal. The team's Novice 4 placed fifth in its heat and did not qualify as well.
