DAYTON, Ohio - Sophomore Rachel Knable went an impressive 4-for-4 at the plate in Temple's doubleheader split at Atlantic 10 rival Dayton on Sunday, April 11. The Owls dropped a 10-2 decision in the opener and rebounded for a 6-2 win in game two.
In the first game of the day, TU fell behind early and could never recover. Dayton scored two runs in the bottom of the third and exploded for eight runs in the fourth to build the 10-1 lead. The Owls did manage a run in the third and the fourth, but with the eight-run rule in effect, the Flyers took the first one, 10-2.
Knable delivered her first homerun of the season in the game, putting the Cherry & White on the board in the third. The designated player also had a hand in the other run for TU in the game, drawing a walk in the fourth with the bases loaded to force in Samantha Schoell.
Kristen Marris took the loss on the mound, going 3.2 innings and surrendering five hits. Amanda Daly was the winning pitcher for Dayton, going the distance in the five inning game, allowing six hits and striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Owls got on top early, scoring one in the first, one in the fifth and again in the sixth to go ahead 3-0. Temple extended the lead with a three-run seventh inning that featured six hits, including a two-run homer from Danielle Fagan.
Dayton did plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Owls used a double play and a groundout to end the game with the victory.
