Women's Varsity 8 Earns Bronze Medal At Knecht Cup

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ - The Temple women's Varsity 8 came from way back and then held off Drexel to capture a bronze medal at the Knecht Cup Sunday, capping a strong weekend on the Cooper River by the program.
"It was a great weekend for the program," Temple head coach Tim Hagan said. "We really clicked today which bodes well as we prepare for next weekend's A-10 Championships."
The Owls V8, comprised of Isabella Bourbon (cox), Mary Webster (stroke), Allison Boc (7-seat), Taylor Wasserleben (6-seat), Bailey Chick (5-seat), Jeanine Lees (4-seat), Joanna Sutor (3-seat), Nicole Wagner (2-seat) and Brynn Moore (bow), was in fifth place at the halfway point of the race before finding another gear to move into third place. The Cherry and White then held off Drexel by a mere .15 seconds to win the bronze.
Duke took home the gold medal while Buffalo bested Temple by 1.45 seconds to earn the silver medal.
The Owls' 2nd Varsity 8, comprised of Erin Buchanan (cox), Paige O' Sullivan (stroke), Dana Meadows (7-seat), Kara Jackson (6-seat), Megan Welsh (5-seat), Kendra Dickerson (4-seat), Claudia Loeber
(3-seat), Caitlin Pennington (2-seat) and Angela Flinn (bow), placed sixth in the grand final. Buffalo won gold in the race followed by UMass, Drexel, Duke and Rutgers.
Temple's Varsity 4 placed fifth in the third final.
The Owls will be back on the Cooper River next Saturday at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
