Women's Tennis Takes 6-1 Win Over Visiting UMBC

Owls win doubles point and five of six singles matches
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Owls women's tennis team earned a well-deserved 6-1 victory over visiting UMBC at TU Pavilion on Wednesday, April 14,. TU improves to 8-11 with the win.
After an 8-0 UMBC win at the third doubles flight, the Cherry & White came back to win the first and second to claim the point. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Lucie Pazderova picked up an 8-6 win over Carmen Jackman and Emily Mannix at the second flight to leave the point up for grabs. Josephine Bergman and Katharina Mittag put Temple on the board with an intense 9-8 (9-7) tiebreak win at number one.
In singles play, the Owls claimed five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets.
“This was a great win for the women,” commented head coach Steve Mauro. “UMBC is a very strong team and has had a great season so we feel very fortunate to have beaten them in the manner that we did. I am confident this match will prepare us for our upcoming match against Fordham and hopefully help us carry momentum into the A-10 tournament.”
Temple closes out the regular-season with a match against Atlantic 10 rival Fordham on Saturday, April 17 at 12:00 p.m.
