Owens Sets Meet Record As Women’s Track & Field Competes At Greyhound Invitational

Sophomore places first in shot put
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Alanna Owens placed first with a meet record in the shot put as the Temple women's track & field team competed at the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian University.
Owens toss of 14.26m crushed the previous meet record, held at 12.68m. She also met ECAC marks with the throw.
In the pole vault, senior Melissa (Gale) Hand led Temple placing third by clearing 3.50m. Junior Abigail Blomeke placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.55m.
On the track, junior Rebecca Mims paced the Owls in the 1500m run, coming in second in a time of 4:55.54.
In the 400m, freshmen Tessa West and Jade Wilson finished one-two in times of 57.00 and 57.87, respectively. Classmate Tonney Smith fared well in the 800m run, placing second in a time of 2:17.62.
Sophomore Andrea Butler took top honors in the 200m dash, clocking in at 26.23.
Next up for the Owls is the prestigious Penn Relays, held April 22-24 at the University of Pennsylvania.
