Women's Tennis Advances to Semifinals with 4-1 Win Over Massachusetts

#3 Owls square off with #2 Richmond on Saturday
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Temple women's tennis team has advanced to the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-1 win over sixth-seeded Massachusetts on Friday, April 23. The third seed Owls will square off against #2 Richmond in a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, April 24 to vie for a spot in the championship match.
In doubles play, the Owls clinched the point with wins at number one and number three. Josephine Bergman and Katharina Mittag paired up to defeat their first flight opponent, 8-3. Theresa Stangl and May Johnson secured it with an 8-6 victory at number three. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova and Lucie Pazderova were up 7-6 in their match at the second flight when the point was decided and, therefore, did not finish their match.
In singles action. UMass picked up a point at number one with a Julia Comas 6-2, 6-2 win over Bergman. That was the only point the Minutewomen would earn, however, as Stangl, Johnson and Mittag each picked up straight-set wins at numbers four, five and six, respectively.
TU is 11-11 overall and will go up against Richmond, a team it lost to 5-2 earlier in the year, on Saturday afternoon. The winner of the match will advance to the championship tilt, while the loser will play for third place.
