300-plus student-athletes honored at event
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple University honored its best in athletics, both on and off the field, at its eighth annual Breakfast of Champions Wednesday morning. In all, over 300 Temple student-athletes were recognized for academic and athletic. The men's tennis team received The Owl for the top Team GPA Award.
With an aggregate grade point average of 3.44, the men's squad earned the award for the first time in the eight year history of the event. The nine-man team placed five of its athletes on either the Director's Honor Roll (student-athletes with a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA) or President's Honor Roll (GPA of 3.5 to 4.0).
As well as its accomplishments in the classroom, the 2010 squad also excelled on the courts, earning a #4 seed at the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament. The Owls held true to their seed, finishing the event with fourth place, their highest finish since 2006.
Philadelphia media icon Don Tollefson served as the emcee for this year's Breakfast of Champions while Bill Mills, President of PNC, was the presenting sponsor.
