5.4.10 | Men's Tennis

Filip and younger brother Kacper represent Temple on All-Conference First Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Filip Rams (Katowice, Poland) has been named the Atlantic 10's men's tennis Most Outstanding Performer in voting conducted among the conference head coaches. In the same vote, freshman Kacper Rams (Katowice, Poland) joined Filip on the A-10 All-Conference First Team. This is the second-straight year Filip Rams has been named to the conference first team.

Also picking up individual honors were Sebastian Fauchet of Richmond, named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, and Xavier head coach Eric Toth as the Coach of the Year, his third-straight honor. Junior Eric Larregola of St. Bonaventure was selected as the Student-Athlete of the Year in a separate vote of the conference's sports information directors.

Rams, who becomes the first Temple player to earn Outstanding Performer honors since 1995, posted an 18-8 overall singles mark during the 2009-10 season, including a 13-6 record in dual matches, all at number one singles. The sophomore team captain led Temple to the semifinals of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship, racking up a trio of convincing straight-set wins over Saint Louis, Duquesne and George Washington. Paired with his brother Kacper for most of the season, Filip registered a 21-8 doubles record throughout the season, including a 14-6 mark in dual meet action. Playing every tandem match at number one as well, he teamed up with classmate Dmitry Vizhunov in his final six matches of the year, going 5-1, which included three victories at the A-10 Championship.

Kacper Rams followed in his brothers' footsteps by earning a spot on the A-10 All-Conference First Team as a rookie. Splitting his time between the second, third, fourth and fifth singles flights throughout the year, Kacper proved his versatility with a 16-15 overall mark. He played the bulk of his doubles bouts at number one with Filip, while also playing five matches at number three to record a 19-9 doubles mark this year.

Joining Filip and Kacper Rams on the All-Conference first-team are Charlotte's Moritz Bernhoerster and Charles Martin Le-Camp; Duquesne's Jeremy McClelland; George Washington's Ugur Atalay, Erik Hannah and Chris Kushma; Chris Post and Diego Valdenegro of St. Bonaventure; and Xavier's Chris Herrlinger.

The All-Conference second-team consists of Duquesne's Gustavo Villares and Mikhael Rasner; George Washington's Yan Levinski; Richmond's Jesse Feder; St. Bonaventure's Enric Larregola and Mikhail Sudakov; Jake Hendrie, James McArthur and Ken Nordheim of Saint Louis; and Xavier's Richard Canelas, Bobby Deye and J.T. Torbeck.

Toth earns his third A-10 Coach of the Year honor in as many seasons after second-seeded Xavier captured its third-straight A-10 Championship with wins over St. Bonaventure (4-3), Duquesne (4-1) and George Washington (4-3). After serving as an assistant coach at Xavier for 10 seasons, Toth has guided the Musketeers to its first-ever A-10 titles and subsequent NCAA berths in his three seasons as head coach.

Larregola posted a 15-7 singles record this season, playing primarily at third singles, and a 14-7 doubles mark. He went 3-1 at No. 3 singles and 3-1 at No. 2 doubles during the Atlantic 10 Championship, including a straight-set victory over Charlotte to help the Bonnies capture a narrow 4-3 win. Larregola, who was previously named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Dean's List at SBU, maintains at 3.791 grade-point average as a management science major.

Joining Larregola on the Academic All-Conference team is teammate Mikhail Sudakov; Duquesne's Jeremy McClelland; George Washington's Yan Levinski; and James McArthur and Ken Nordheim of Saint Louis.
