Erin Buchanan and Caitlin Pennington Named To Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA - Temple juniors Erin Buchanan and Caitlin Pennington have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, announced today. The pair are two of nine women's crew student-athletes to be recognized, voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Buchanan was the coxswain for the second varsity eight that placed fourth at the Atlantic 10 Championships helping the Owls to a best-ever finish of tied for third place. She also coxed the varsity eight to gold at the Keuper Cup and Braxton Memorial Regatta, while from the same position led the varsity four to gold at the Frostbite and Braxton Memorial Regatta. A Broadcast, Telecommunications, Mass Media major boasting 3.87 cumulative grade point average, Buchanan was honored as a member of Temple's "Trustee Ten" for having one of the top-10 grade point averages of all Temple student-athletes.
Pennington was the second seat in the same second varsity eight that placed fourth at the A-10 Championships. She led the second varsity eight to win first place at the Keuper Cup, also helping the boat place second at the Braxton Memorial Regatta. Earning Temple President's Honor Roll and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Pennington owns a 3.83 cumulative grade point average as a Communications major.
Joining the pair on the team are Colleen Greway (Saint Joseph's), Katie Herdmann (Saint Joseph's), Melissa Kendall (Rutgers-Camden), Jane Morris (Bryn Mawr), Lauren Rozsits (Saint Joseph's), Carolyn Steinberg (Philadlephia U.) and Briana Zelinski (Philadelphi U.).
