More than 1800 Campers Visit Temple
PHILADELPHIA – For the third consecutive year, Temple football rewrote attendance records for its five sessions of the annual Al Golden Football Camp. A total of 1,868 campers visited the Philadelphia campus this summer, including 548 high school student-athletes during the first session on Memorial Day weekend.
It also marked the second consecutive year that more than 1,800 campers attended the camp. Temple's previous record, set in 2009, was 1,854campers.
Philadelphia Eagles' head coach Andy Reid was in attendance during Sunday's final session.
“(The Temple coaches) are very well organized. And then they're really coaching them, and those are very important things. Each kid, if he listens here, comes away with something that he can use for his upcoming season,” Reid said. “What they're teaching here, they're teaching also to their players, so you can see the detail these coaches are teaching these kids, and then you know that's what's being taught to their players-- and that's why they're good.”
Campers traveled to the Philadelphia campus from 14 states as well as Washington, D.C., and Canada, bringing more than 5,000 visitors to Temple University's campus.
Each camp session was staffed by the Temple football coaching staff as well as full-time coaches from Division I, I-AA, II, III, and premiere high school coaches from the Northeast Region. The student-athletes worked with some of the best coaches in the region and offered the campers maximum levels of skill development, technique, and instruction for their dollar. Each camper was also exposed to the Temple University campus, the football facilities, and training techniques used by the current Temple Owl football team.
Camp dates for 2011 have also been announced: Sunday, May 29; Sunday, June 5; Saturday, June 18; Thursday, June 23, and Sunday, June 26.
