PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's soccer team kicks off the 2010 season today with a home match against city rival Villanova at 5:00 p.m. at Ambler Sports Complex.  The Owls, led by eighth year head coach David Jones, return 10 seniors and every goal scorer from 2009 to form one of their most experienced squads in program history.

"Everyone coming back has a great idea of what is expected and what we are capable of doing," commented Jones.  "We were very competitive last year with a lot of close games, and I think the team will do things a little differently to get better results."

Ten returnees made as many or more starts for the Owls in 2009, as seven of those players appeared in every game for the Cherry and White.  Of those returning, 2009 honorable mention All-Conference pick Niki Conn looks again to lead the Owls in scoring after tallying eight goals a year ago.

"We have struggled in the past with scoring," said Jones.  "We had some young players score last year and they have a year more experience but also, they have a strong surrounding cast that will make it easier on them to produce."

Temple looks to pick up their first win over the Wildcats, who own the all-time series with a record of 5-0-2.  Villanova returns 14 letterwinners and eight starters this season.  The two teams met on opening day last year with the Wildcats coming out on top 4-0.
