Sophomore Kate Yurkovic nets two goals, assists on three for seven point day

Box Score | Postgame with head coach David Jones and sophomore Kate Yurkovic

AMBLER, Pa.
- Sophomore Kate Yurkovic fueled a dominating 7-0 win scoring two goals and assisting on three others to help the Temple women's soccer team (1-1-0) cruise past Howard (0-1-0), Sunday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex. Pouring rain during warm ups made for wet field conditions, but did not slow down an Owls' attack that saw six different players net goals.

The scoring opened just under the seven minute mark, as junior Niki Conn fed a pass to the top of the box, which Kate Yurkovic blasted right post for her first goal of the game.

Sophomore Jackie Krostek tallied next for the Owls, controlling a takeaway and firing a shot right side that went through the hands of the Howard keeper Cheyra Bell to put Temple up 2-0 at the 21st minute. One more tally before the break gave Temple at 3-0 lead, as freshman Lauren Heath placed a corner kick over the defense for senior Brianna Costello, who chipped a shot over the keeper.

Senior Kara Williams (1-0-0) started and played the first half in goal for the Owls, fending off the only Howard shot on goal of the game. Sophomore Gillian Kacsuta took over in the second half and faced no shots on goal, preserving the team's first shutout of the season.

Out of the break, some touch passing from Temple set up the fourth score of the game in the 49th minute. Senior Kelly Diviny threaded a pass to Kate Yurkovic, who sent it over to senior Steph Ferretti for a blast through the keepers legs.

Kate Yurkovic continued to find teammates to score, including her sister junior Allicia 'Sha' Yurkovic in the 60th minute. 'Sha' Yurkovic controlled the pass and chipped a shot into the right side for the score. Kate tallied her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute, punching a loose ball off a corner into the back of the net.

The Owls seventh and final goal of the game came in the 66th minute, as Kate tallied her seventh point of the game setting up Conn for a shot to the right post.

Temple outshot Howard 15-1 in the second half, outshooting the visitors by a margin of 24-3 on the game. The Owls' seven goals was the most since 2007, when they topped Cleveland State 8-1.
