Men's Soccer Tabbed To Finish Seventh In Atlantic 10

8.9.10 | Men's Soccer

Owls finished last season 4-4-1 in conference play

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In voting conducted by the league's head coaches, the Temple men's soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll. Last season's conference champion Saint Louis was selected to win the regular season title, followed by NCAA at-large bid winner Charlotte in second.

The Billikens, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after earning the A-10's automatic bid, welcome back the Conference's top-returning scorer in Mike Roach, along with 2009 A-10 Rookie of the Year Alex Sweetin. Charlotte, which made its program's sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season after picking up an at-large bid, had a program best 13-game unbeaten streak during the regular season with a record of 9-0-4 over that span.

Dayton is picked third, followed by Rhode Island, Fordham, Massachusetts, Temple, Duquesne, George Washington, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Xavier and Saint Joseph's.

The Owls finished last season 9-7-2, 4-4-1 in conference play, narrowly missing out on a return trip to the Atlantic 10 Tournament. This season, Temple returns seven starters including leading goal scorer Tyler Witmer and Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star goalkeeper senior Bret Mollon.  Head coach Dave MacWilliams returns for his 11th season as the Owls open their regular season slate against Colgate in the Lafayette Tournament on September 3.

The six-team A-10 Men's Soccer Championship will be held Nov. 11-14 at Transamerica Field on the campus of Charlotte.
