Golf Holds 10th Place at The McLaughlin After Day One

Andrew Mason leads way, in 4th place just three strokes off pace
FARMINGDALE, NY- The Temple golf team opened its 2010-11 season at The McLaughlin hosted by St. John's University and after 36 holes of play Friday the Owls were in 10th place among the 15 competing teams.
The Owls, on the strength of the superb play of senior Andrew Mason and freshman Connor McNicholas, tied for first with Villanova after the first round. Mason carded a four-under par 66 to tie 'Nova's Brendan Kelly for first place. McNicholas, a product of Hatboro-Horsham High, was tied for fifth overall with a two-under round of 68.
Playing with three freshmen among its top five, the Cherry and White fell off the pace in the second round, carding a combined 20-over par 300 for its 10th place showing. Mason led the way with a one-over 71 to finish the day in fourth place, three strokes behing the leader, Chase Lovett-Woodsum of Princeton. McNicholas was six-pver for a two-round total of 144 (+4). Sophomore Devin Bibeau and freshman Steve Burak had identical 149 scoress to tie for 60th while freshman Russelll Hartung (77-76=153) rounded out the TU squad in 74th place.
Temple concludes play Saturday on the Bethpage Red Course.
