Kristen McCarthy Named Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Owls earn the weekly honor for the third time this season
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 honored Temple's Kristen McCarthy with the Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week award following the Owls' 60-57 win at Charlotte in the Atlantic 10 opener on Jan. 7.
McCarthy led the Owls with a game-high 22 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the win. She shot 7-of-13 from the field including 2-of-4 from behind the arc, and went 6-of-8 at the free throw line. McCarthy also tied for game-high honors with three steals.
With 967 points in her career in just her junior season, McCarthy now needs just 33 points to hit the 1,000-point mark.
Temple has earned three Big 5 Player of the Week Awards this season. Senior Qwedia Wallace and junior Shey Peddy were the recipients of the other two honors.
