Temple (9-6, 1-0 A-10) is coming off a 60-57 win in its Atlantic 10 opener at Charlotte on Jan. 7. Charlotte was up six on the Owls with five minutes remaining before a Temple comeback. The Owls have won two straight, also dominating in an 81-60 win vs. Akron on Jan. 2.

Junior Kristen McCarthy tied her season high with a game-high 22 points at Charlotte, and senior Qwedia Wallace scored 10 points including a layup and two free throws in the final five seconds to put Temple on top and then seal the victory. Both McCarthy and Wallace are averaging 13.2 points per game to lead the team this season.

Shey Peddy, Qwedia Wallace and Kristen McCarthy have all earned Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors this season, and McCarthy is this week's reigning honoree after her performance at Charlotte.

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island is 6-9 overall but just 1-5 in its last six games. The Rams dropped their A-10 opener to UMass at home, 75-64. Senior Megan Shoniker leads the team with 20.7 ppg (2nd in the A-10) and has twice scored 30 or more points this year, including a 34-point effort vs. UMass.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Temple holds a 33-16 advantage in the all-time series against Rhode Island. The Owls have won the last seven straight contests as well as 18 of the last 21. Last year Temple won at Rhode Island, 67-52. Two years ago in Philly the Owls rolled to a 95-48 win. The Rams last defeated the Owls in 2004 by a score of 60-59 in Kingston.

ATLANTIC 10 HOME OPENERS
Temple has won its last 10 Atlantic 10 home openers, dating back to 2001. The last time the Owls were defeated in an A-10 home opener was in a one-point, 79-78 loss to Fordham on Jan. 13, 2000.

A-10 OPENERS
Temple is 15-14 all-time in Atlantic 10 openers and has now won six out of the last eight with the recent win at Charlotte.

LOOKING FOR THREE GRAND
Following junior Shey Peddy's recent achievement of reaching 1,000 points at the Division I level, Temple has two others nearing the miletone. Only a junior, Kristen McCarthy has scored 967 points in her career, while senior Qwedia Wallace is close behind at 944 points.

UNDER PRESSURE
The Owls have proven their ability in close games this season, winning all three of their games that were decided by three points or less.

At Charlotte, Temple erased a six-point deficit with five minutes remaining. Down one with under a minute left, Qwedia Wallace went through traffic to make a layup and put the Owls up. She then stole the ball on Charlotte's next possession and went 2-of-2 at the free throw line to ice the win after being fouled.

BELL RINGS UP 22
Satoria Bell came off the bench in Temple's 81-60 win vs. Akron to lead the Owls with a game and season-high 22 points. She hit 6-of-11 from the field including 4-of-7 three's, and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the line. Bell also led the team and recorded a season high with seven rebounds.

ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
Surprisingly for a team that had never been a real three-point threat, this year's squad has proven very capable of scoring from beyond the arc and is averaging 6.9 three's per game (3rd in the A-10). The Owls sank 12 vs. #7 Ohio State and made 10 four other times (at #13/13 UCLA, vs. Rutgers, at Ohio and vs. Akron).

LOW TURNOVER RATE
The Owls rank 17th in the nation for fewest turnovers at 14.4 per game. After just once recording fewer than 10 turnovers in 2009-10, Temple has done so four times already this year, with a season-low of seven vs. #7 Ohio State.

SUPERB SECOND HALF
The Owls scored a season-best 47 points in the second half against Akron, shooting 19-for-32 (59.4 percent) from the field.

FIRST BIG 5 TEST OF THE SEASON - PASSED
After not winning or sharing the Big 5 title for the first time in six years in 2009-10, Temple is already looking good this season after avenging its only loss a year ago. The Owls are now 1-0 in Big 5 play with their 55-43 win at Villanova on Dec. 19, while the Wildcats are now 1-2.

BALANCED ATTACK
With three players averaging between 11 and 13 points per game and two others at 6 and 8.2 ppg, the Owls have been very balanced offensively. Over 15 games, six different players have led or tied for the team lead in scoring.

OWLS RISING
After three years of finishing higher than predicted in the Atlantic 10, the Owls have been picked to finish third in the standings this year. Temple was picked fifth in 2009-10, and went on to tie for second. Defending champion Xavier is the league's top pick this season, while Dayton edged out Temple for second place.
