Game Notes vs. Fordham

PHILADELPHIA - With a 2-0 record in the Atlantic 10, the Temple women's basketball team will look to stay unbeaten as the Owls travel to Fordham for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 15. Temple (10-6, 2-0) has won its last 16 games against the Rams (9-9, 1-1) who are off to their best start in six years.

The Owls got a nail-biting 60-57 win at Charlotte on Jan. 7 followed by a dominating, 81-34 defeat of Rhode Island on Jan. 12. Their 81 points tied their season high and marked the second time in their current three-game win streak that they scored 81 (also vs. Akron on Jan. 2).

Temple's 47-point margin of victory vs. Rhode Island tied the largest margin of victory for Temple in the last 26 years. The other 47-point win was also vs. Rhode Island (95-48 in 2009).

Junior Kristen McCarthy, the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, needs just 17 points to reach 1,000 career points. Junior Shey Peddy reached the 1,000-point mark in her career earlier this season, and senior Qwedia Wallace stands 48 points away from 1,000. All three have earned Big 5 Player of the Week honors this season.

McCarthy is leading the Owls with 13.4 points per game, while Wallace is second on the team at 12.9 ppg and Peddy third at 11.5. Temple's turnover average of 14.3 is currently the eighth-lowest average among all teams in Division I.

At 9-9, Fordham already has its most wins since the 2005-06 season. The Rams have won three of their last five including their A-10 opener vs. La Salle, but lost their most recent game at Charlotte, 74-41. The Rams rank second in the A-10 in three-point percentage defense at .258.

Temple has a 21-4 advantage in the all-time series against Fordham, and has won the last 16 straight. The last time the Rams earned a win was in a one-point victory on Jan. 13, 2000, 79-78. Last year, Temple defeated Fordham at home, 67-34.
