Owls score 189.625 to place sixth in meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Temple women's gymnastics team posted a season opening score of 189.625 to place sixth at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, hosted by George Washington on Sunday afternoon. The Owls were led by a top 10 finish on floor from junior Corrine Williams, who scored 9.800 to place sixth.
North Carolina took top honors in the highly competitive event, posting a meet-best score of 193.900. Host George Washington took second with a score of 191.975, followed by Rutgers (191.725), Cornell (191.275), William & Mary (190.275), the Owls and Penn (189.425).
Williams excelled on floor and was followed by freshman Jasmine Johnson. Johnson placed 24th with a score of 9.575, followed by junior Kaity Watson with a 26th place score of 9.525. Freshman Brianna Ferdinandi made her collegiate debut on floor, scoring 9.450.
Williams also led the Owls on balance beam, tying with senior Marissa Oxenford for 13th with a score of 9.575. Freshman Heather Zaniewski was the next best finisher for Temple, placing 21st with a score of 9.475.
Senior Kathryn Ho was the top Temple finisher on uneven bars, placing 17th with a score of 9.575. Watson and sophomore Ebone Grant finished 21st and 22nd with respective scores of 9.525 and 9.500.
Temple's efforts on vault were headed by junior Alexandra Uscatu, who placed 11th with a score of 9.650. Williams placed 13th in the event with a score of 9.625, while Johnson and freshman Sylvie Borschel tied for 18th with scores of 9.600.
Up next, the Owls will compete at Ursinus on January 23rd. Competition is slated for 2:00 p.m.
