HANOVER, N.H.
– Temple's women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the 2011 season with a convincing 7-0 win over Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, January 23, at Dartmouth. The Owls failed to drop a set in the shutout of the Penmen.

TU secured the doubles point when freshmen Yana Mavrina and Alicia Doms defeated their second flight opponent, 8-2, after senior Josephine Bergman and junior Mellana Cramer had made quick work of their competitors at number three, 8-1. Seniors Elyse Steiner and Lucie Pazderova made it a clean sweep of doubles with an 8-5 victory at the first flight.

In singles play, Doms and classmate Jordan Batey were impressive at the fifth and fourth flights, respectively, not dropping a game in two 6-0, 6-0 wins to increase the Temple lead to 3-0. Bergman sealed the victory with her 6-0, 6-1 win at number six.

Temple is 1-1 and returns home for its next match, playing host to Drexel on February 4, at 12 p.m.
