Owls (13-6, 4-0) set to face Minutewomen (6-14, 2-3) at 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 26

Game Notes vs. Massachusetts

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team has won six straight games and is undefeated in the Atlantic 10. The Owls (13-6, 4-0) will take that streak on the road to Massachusetts (6-14, 2-3) for a 5:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the Mullins Center. The game has been moved up two hours from its originally scheduled time due to an incoming snowstorm.

Xavier, ranked seventh in the most recent AP Poll, is the only other undefeated women's team in the A-10 at 5-0.  The Owls' six-game win streak is their longest since the 2008-09 season.

Junior Kristen McCarthy, who leads the team with 12.9 points per game, reached the 1,000-point mark in her career in Temple's win against Saint Joseph's last week. She has now scored 1,014 career points to rank 17th all-time at Temple.

Senior Qwedia Wallace (12.3 ppg) has scored 979 points in her career, and is likely to soon become the third Owl to reach the 1,000-point career mark this season. Junior Shey Peddy (12.4 ppg) reached the milestone back in December (her 1,000 includes two years at Division I Wright State) and has now scored 1,090 career points.

The Owls are averaging 25.8 points per game more than their conference opponents so far, and for A-10 games, Temple leads the league in nearly every defensive category including blocks and steals. Temple also ranks ninth in NCAA Division I in fewest turnovers per game at 13.7.

Peddy, Wallace and McCarthy have all earned Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors this season. McCarthy and Peddy are both two-time honorees, and Peddy is a reigning co-Big 5 Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 ppg, 4.0 apg and 4.0 spg in two wins last week.

Massachusetts is just 6-14 overall but has a 2-3 record in conference play. The Minutewomen rank fifth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage at .399 and average 7.7 treys per game (14th in the nation). Senior Cerie Musgrove averages 13.0 points per game and is currently second among all players in NCAA Division I in three-point percentage shooting at .490. Sophomore Jasmine Watson leads UMass with 14.3 ppg along with 7.0 rebounds per game.

Temple is 28-19 all-time against Massachusetts, and the Owls have won nine of the last 10. The one loss was recent, however, as the Minutewomen took a 71-60 win the last time the teams played in Amherst on Feb. 11, 2009. Temple rebounded a year ago with a 66-54 home win.
