Williams and Watson nab first place finishes

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Led by first place finishes from juniors Corrine Williams and Kaity Watson, the Temple women's gymnastics team topped Souther Connecticut State, 186.425-185.375, Saturday afternoon at James Moore Fieldhouse. Watson won on vault while Williams took top honors on balance beam.
Watson's score of 9.550 was the best of the meet, with senior Alexandra Uscatu taking second with a score of 9.475.
Williams owned the beam with a score of 9.650. The Owls finished one-two-three in the event, with freshman Sylvie Borschel placing second (9.600) and senior Marissa Oxenford placed third (9.550).
Oxenford and Williams were Temple's best finishers on floor for the afternoon. Williams took second with a score of 9.525 while Oxenford placed fourth (9.475).
The Owls were led by freshman Heather Zaniewski on parallel bars. Zaniewski placed third with a score of 9.300, while sophomore Ebone Grant finished fourth (9.250).
Up next, Temple returns home for the Owls first and only meet on North Broad Street of the year, hosting the Ken Anderson Memorial on February 5.
