Trio of Owls set personal bests in 800m

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Three Owls set season bests in the 800m as the Temple women's track & field team competed in the Penn State National Invitational. Sophomore Tonney Smith, senior Assata Cowart and classmate Tashima Stephens all ran season best times in the 800m.
Stephens was the top finisher in the event, turning in a time of 2:14.79. Smith posted a personal best time of 2:15.04, followed by Cowart with a time of 2:15.12.
Smith, Stephens and Cowart then teamed with senior Shadaya Bennett to best the school record in the 4x800m by nearly three seconds, turning in an ECAC qualifying time of 9:03.17 for third place.
Freshman Ambrosia Iwugo continues to excel in the 400m, winning her heat en route to an eighth place finish with an ECAC qualifying time of 56.56.
In the field, junior Alanna Owens threw a personal best in the weight throw, reaching 54-04.75.
The Owls are in competition next when they travel to compete at the Monmouth Invitational on February 5.
