BEDMINSTER, NJ - Freshman Paul Carbone tied for medalist honors at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, shooting an even-par 144 for the two-day tournament to lead Temple to a third-place finish among 17 teams Sunday at Fiddler's Elbow Country.
Carbone was one of only two golfers, among the 88 competitors, to shoot under par during the final round. The Huntingdon Valley, Pa. native carded a two-under 70 to tie for the best round of the day. He finished in a four-way tie for the lead with Seton Hall's Brandon Park, James Madison's Chris Wellde and Longwood's Ross Sumner.
"I am really happy with where we finished," said Temple head coach Brian Quinn. "Our last two tourneys were really solid. We are hopefully going to use this to get geared up for the spring."
"I am really excited for him," Quinn added. "He really competed. He was low man with a 69 in his last round up in Newport. He made seven birdies today. He is coming along fast and is going to be a really good player."
James Madison won the tournament with a two-day total of 586 (+10). Seton Hall was ten strokes back (596) while Temple was two behind the Pirates at 598.
Sophomore Steve Burak tied for 18th overall with a six-over 150. Freshman Mike Amole was one shot behind and tied for 21st at 151. Junior Devin Bibeau finished tied for 28th with a nine-over 153 while sophomore Matthew Crescanzo was fifth for the Owls, and tied for 59th overall with a 159 (+15). Sophomore Russell Hartung (163/t-75th) rounded out the Temple squad.
