CINCINNATI, Ohio – Redshirt junior Tara Murphy tied her season-high in saves Friday night, as she stopped seven shots pelted on net by the Xavier Musketeers. Mariah Whitaker found a way to beat Murphy in the 73rd minute for the game's only goal when she headed a shot off a free kick that was lifted by Lauren Heap. Xavier held the Owls shotless for the remaining 17 minutes, allowing the Musketeers to shutout Temple, 1-0 at the XU Soccer Complex.
Temple was outshot 12-4 for the game, blasting just two shots on net.
Dropping this match to Xavier sets the Owls record to 4-11-0 on the regular season and drops them to 1-5-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Musketeers pick up their first A-10 win of the season and remain undefeated on their home field in 2011.
The Owls will remain in the state of Ohio for the rest of the weekend since they will head to Dayton on Sunday afternoon to complete the backend of their current road trip. Temple will take on the Flyers, who are receiving votes in the latest NSCAA rankings. Kickoff time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Baujan Field.
