Women's Tennis Closes Out Fall Season at USTAITA Regional Championship

Four players competing in consolation singles
NORFOLK, Va. – The Temple women's tennis team's fall season has come to a close after four players competed at the USTAITA Women's Atlantic Regional Championship, being held at Old Dominion on October 21-25, 2011. The Owls' players in the competition were Jordan Batey, Alicia Doms, Paola Calderon and Yana Mavrina.
All four players were active in the main consolation singles draw on Sunday. The Cherry & White walked away with wins in three of their final four matches.
Doms and Calderon each played in the round of 32 with both picking up wins. Doms defeated Naeemah Brooks from Norfolk State, 6-0, 6-2. Calderon was a 6-4, 6-1, winner over George Washington's Jacqui Corba.
In the round of 16, Mavrina dropped a 6-1, 6-2, decision to William & Mary's Anik Cepeda. Batey finished the fall with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Julia Blakeley of George Washington.
The Temple women's tennis fall season is complete. The squad will open up play in the spring at the VCU 4+1 Invite on January 20-22, 2012.
