Indoor Track & Field Season Opens Friday at Jack Pyrah Invite

12.1.11 | Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA – It's only been two weeks since the cross country season came to a close, but Temple Running is back in full swing as it gets set to open its 2011-12 indoor track and field season on Friday when the men and women teams travel to Haverford for the annual Jack Pyrah Invitational.

The meet at Haverford will be a gauge to see where the team is at this point since the Owls will not run again until the New Year when they begin a more consistent schedule when the teams go to the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason on Jan. 7.

A year ago, the men's side was led by a strong of core seniors, including Miles Dryden, Emmanuel Freeland and Bob Keogh, all of which helped the Owls have a fairly successful indoor season, as it tied for fourth place at the Atlantic 10 Championships.

Even with departing leadership, fourth-year head coach Eric Mobley feels confident that the freshmen class will be successful and will form a strong core with upperclassmen Lionel Wilson, Gabe Pickett and Tim Malloy his team can be one of the top three teams in the conference this season.

The women are coming off their sixth place finish in last season's indoor conference meet is led by a strong group of upperclassmen including Tashima Stephens, Jade Wilson and Tessa West.

With the satisfaction of what he has seen at practice this fall and having some returning runners that did not compete last year, Mobley feels the women will improve significantly in field events and can have a very strong season.
