PHILADELPHIA - On the morning of December 4, less than 12 hours after defeating Auburn at the Liacouras Center, the Temple women's basketball participated in the T.E.A.M. Philly Stair Climb at the BNY Mellon building in downtown Philadelphia. The Owls raised $1200 through soliciting donations, all of which goes to benefit the Special Olympics. Senior Kristen McCarthy wrote about the experience for OwlSports.com.
Philly Stair Climb - Dec. 4, 2011 - recap by Temple women's basketball senior Kristen McCarthy:
The Stair Climb was great! Everyone went into the climb wondering how they were going to climb 53 flights of stairs. Before the climb began, everyone was waiting in the lobby and I looked to my right and saw other participants stretching and listening to their iPods as I do before a basketball game. I immediately thought, 'well, maybe I should stretch because this seems like more of a competition than I thought.' As the lady said "Go," I began to walk, yes walk, up the stairs. As soon as my legs started to burn I looked up and the sign said floor number 3!!!! I was only on the third floor and my legs were already on fire!
Luckily, my teammates and I pushed each other through the climb and we were very encouraging. Although I was tired as I climbed the stairs, it was not as bad as I thought. After reaching the top of the stairs the first thing I did was devour an entire bottle of water and cheer on the rest of the participants. It was a great feeling knowing that I was able to help the Special Olympics. We set a team goal which was to raise $1,200, and fortunately we met our goal by raising exactly $1,200!
Thank you all for taking the time to stay informed about the Temple Women's Basketball team. GO OWLS!
