Men’s Basketball Concludes MAC Trifecta With Wednesday Game at Toledo

TOLEDO, OHIO - The Temple men's basketball team travels to Toledo Wednesday (7:00 p.m./1210 AM WPHT) for the rubber match of a three-game swing against Mid-American Conference foes. The Owls (4-2) lost at Bowling Green last Wednesday and defeated Central Michigan on Saturday in their home opener. The Rockets (6-1) have won six straight since falling to Texas State in the Texas-Pan American Tip-Off to open the season.
Temple, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Fran Dunphy, sports a balanced scoring attack led by senior guards Ramone Moore (17.8 ppg.) and Juan Fernandez (13.5 ppg.). Both preseason first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference selections, Moore tops the squad in three-point accuracy (.423, 11-26) while Fernandez (15-39, .389 3-point range) has a team best 26 assists.
Junior guard Khalif Wyatt, the Owls' second-leading scorer at 15.6 points per game, tops the team in steals (11) and free throw percentage (.852). Junior Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.2 ppg., 4.8 rpg.) and redshirt freshman Anthony Lee (4.3 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) round out the Cherry and White starting five.
Toledo, under the direction of second-year head coach Tod Kowalczyk, has already posted two more wins than all of the 2010-11 campaign (4-28). The Rockets, with almost an entirely new lineup, boast four double-figure scorers led by sophomore Rian Pearson (17.4 ppg,, 8.3 rpg.). Freshman Julius Brown (13.9 ppg.) and junior Dominique Buckley (13.3 ppg.) give Toledo two talented backcourt starters. Sophomores Matt Smith (11.7 ppg.) and Reese Holliday (7.6 ppg., 7.6 rpg.) provide strength in the frontcourt.
Temple has won all three meetings in the series with the last an 82-49 decision at the Liacouras Center last season (11/14/10).
