Brown Leads Temple To 77-58 Win at Toledo

Sophomore reserve shines for second straight game

TOLEDO, OHIO - Sophomore guard Aaron Brown came off the bench to lead all scorers with 19 points as Temple posted a convincing 77-58 win at Toledo Wednesday night. The Owls improve to 5-2 while the Rockets (6-2) saw their six-game win streak come to an end.
Temple never trailed in the contest and opened up an 18-point lead, 30-12, midway through the first half. Toledo whittled the margin down to nine at the break (36-27) and then scored the first four points of the second half before the Owls took control for good.
Senior guard Juan Fernandez scored seven of his 13 points in an 11-2 run to build the margin to a comfortable 14 points 47-33. The Rockets cut it to nine twice over the next five minutes, but 11 unanswered points by the Owls turned the game into a rout, 73-50, with 3:52 to play.
Brown, who scored a career-high 21 points in Saturday's win over Central Michigan, made seven-of-10 shots from the field, and five-of-eight from three-point range. He did this in only 22 minutes of action.
Junior Khalif Wyatt, who came off the bench due to being late for a film session, joined Brown and Fernandez in double figures with 11 points.
Freshman Will Cummings, who saw his first action of the season, replaced Wyatt in the starting lineup. The Jacksonville, Fla. native had six points, five rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes of action.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Lee had another strong game, scoring nine points, pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and blocking four shots.
Senior Ramone Moore, the team's leading scorer (17.8 ppg.), was held under double figures for the first time all season with eight points. He did dish a game-high seven assists.
Junior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson was perfect from the field (4-4) for the second straight game. He finished with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Rian Pearson led three double-figure Toledo scorers with 16 points.
Temple blistered the nets, hitting 28 of 53 field goal attempts (52.8%) and 11 of 24 three-pointers (45.8%). The Owls, however, had an uncharacteristic 22 turnovers in the contest.
Temple next hosts Villanova in a Philadelphia Big 5 game at the Liacouras Center on Saturday. Tip time is 5:00 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and heard on 1210 AM WPHT.
