Robinson delivers three-run blast in loss

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla.
– Sophomore Ali Robinson delivered a three-run bomb in the bottom of the fourth inning, and four other Temple players collected hits in the frame, as the Temple softball team put up six runs in the inning on the #16 Missouri Tigers. The Owls ultimately fell to Missouri in a heartbreaker, 8-7, on February 25, at the USF Fairfield Inn and Suites Tampa North Tournament.

Missouri looked like it was going to make quick work of the Owls, scoring six runs in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Three doubles and a homerun in the frame gave the nationally ranked squad the early advantage.

But TU showed it had staying power in the bottom of the fourth. Freshmen Sarah Prezioso and Stephanie Pasquale recorded back-to-back singles to open the inning, and one out and a double steal later, Prezioso scored on an error. Junior Christina Sykora singled to left field to plate another run and force a Missouri pitching change.

After Lindsey Muller gave way to Nicole Hudson on the mound, and Hudson retired one Temple batter, junior Samantha Schoell singled to drive in junior Rachel Knable. With runners on first and third, Robinson stepped in and delivered her first homer of the season to knot the game at 6-6.

Missouri took the lead back in the top of the fifth with a two-out pinch-hit solo homerun from Madison Ruggeberg. It was shortlived, however, as the Cherry and White tied it up again in the bottom half of the frame.

Prezioso led off with a double and, one out later, Hudson walked the bases loaded. Sykora tied the game with an RBI on a fielder's choice. The Tigers got out of it without further damage, forcing a pop-out to end the inning.

MU again took the lead in the top of the seventh. Hudson helped herself, opening the inning with a solo homerun. Freshman pitcher Brooklin White shut down the Missouri lineup after that to get out of the inning further unscathed.

The Owls, however, couldn't find the tying run this time, going down in order in the bottom of the final inning to fall 8-7 to the Tigers.

White went the distance on the mound, giving up eight runs on nine hits. Prezioso collected two of Temple's seven hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Temple is 1-1 and is back in action on Saturday, February 26, with a 2:30 p.m. game against Central Connecticut.
