Knable records six RBI in Temple win
TAMPA, Fla. – Five Temple softball players recorded two or more hits as the Owls took a 14-6 decision from Central Connecticut on Saturday, February 26, at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Tampa North Tournament. TU improves to 2-1 with the win. CCSU drops to 1-3.
Things did not start off as Temple had planned, despite taking an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Temple proceeded to commit all three of its errors in the game in the bottom of the frame, allowing Central Connecticut to tie the game at 1-1.
The Blue Devils grabbed a 3-1 lead after two innings, taking advantage of three hits in the second, including two doubles. Central Connecticut chased Temple starter senior Kristen Marris after one out in the frame. Freshman Brooklin White came on in relief and shut down the opponent for the final two outs.
Temple got back into the game with two more runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Samantha Schoell sent a double to centerfield to score junior Rachel Knable, who had walked, and junior Christina Sykora, who had singled earlier in the inning.
The lead didn't last long, though, and CCSU went back ahead 5-3 with a two-run fourth of their own.
Once again Temple responded, this time putting three on the board in the top of the fifth, thanks in large part to two Central Connecticut errors in the inning.
After allowing the Blue Devils to plate one more run to tie the game at 6-6, TU took over, scoring three in the fifth, five in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh to put the game away. During that stretch, Knable recorded two hits, including a three-run homer, to help the Owls to the victory.
White got the win with 5.2 innings of work, giving up six hits and three runs. Also having an impressive day at the plate for the Cherry and White was freshman Stephanie Pasquale, who went 3-for-5 a double.
Temple is scheduled to be back in action at 10 p.m. Saturday night against #29 Illinois State.
