Owls take doubles point and four singles matches

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Temple men's tennis team hosted Delaware on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls came away with a 5-2 victory over the Blue Hens.
Delaware started things strong with a win at number one doubles, but TU bounced right back to win the second and third flights and take the point. Dmitry Vizhunov and Kacper Rams got Temple back on track with an 8-4 win at number three, and Taylor Hairston and Mansur Gishkaev secured the point with an 8-4 victory at number two.
In singles play, the Blue Hens picked up their first point with a win at number two. Vizhunov quickly righted the ship, winning 6-0, 7-6 (2) at the third flight. Hairston made it 3-1 with his 6-2, 7-6 (6) win at number six. After a Delaware victory at number two got the visitors within one, the Owls' first and fifth flights came through with wins to take the win.
Filip Rams won a tough three-set match at the first flight, defeating his foe 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Gishkaev finished the day off with another three-setter, dropping the first 4-6, and coming back for a 6-3, 10-4 win.
Temple is 9-4 overall and returns to action this weekend with two matches against Atlantic 10 foes Dayton and Xavier.
