Owls drop just one match in doubles play

DAYTON, Ohio – The Temple women's tennis team had a dominating performance against Atlantic 10 foe Dayton on Friday, March 18. The Owls won 7-0 and have now won their last three matches. They improve to 7-5 for the season.
In doubles play, the senior duo of Lucie Pazderova and Elyse Steiner got things started with an 8-2 win at first doubles. They were followed by Jordan Batey and Theresa Stangl, who won 8-3 at third doubles to secure the point for the Owls. In second doubles, Dayton's Laina Grote and Loni Dickerhoof were able to beat the freshman duo of Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina, 8-4.
In singles play, Pazderova extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. She was followed by Mavrina, who didn't drop a game defeating Dayton's Grote, 6-0, 6-0. Batey kept things rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
With the match decided play continued on courts two, four and one. Doms had an impressive performance, just dropping two games to the Flyers' Maureen Stevens, 6-1, 6-1. Steiner followed, winning her match 6-1, 7-5.
In first singles, Theresa Stangl faced Dayton's Claire Dreyer. After dropping the first set 7-6 (4), Stangl fought back to win the match 6-4, 10-3.
The Owls continue play on Sunday morning when they face A-10 foe Xavier at 9 a.m.
