Women's Tennis Takes 5-2 Decision at Xavier

Owls win fourth straight

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Temple women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend with a 5-2 win against Atlantic 10 foe Xavier on Saturday morning. The Owls improve to 8-5 for the season.
In doubles play, the senior duo of Lucie Pazderova and Elyse Steiner fell to Xavier's Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece, 8-6. However, in third doubles the freshman duo Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina were able to win 8-5. The deciding point came down to Theresa Stangl and Jordan Batey, who fell to Xavier's Kally Alkire and Katie Pleiman, 8-6.
In singles play, Batey tied the score with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 win at six singles. She was followed by Doms, who won her match at fourth singles, 6-2, 7-5. In first singles Stangl fell to Pleiman, 6-2, 7-6.
With the score tied at 2-2, Pazderova extended the Temple lead to 3-2. After dropping the first set 2-6, she fought back to win the match at number five, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Steiner secured the win for the Owls, defeating Treece, 6-7 (8-6), 6-2, 6-2.
With the match decided, play continued on court three. Mavrina faced Andrew Wolf, and after dropping the first set 5-7, battled back to win the match 6-4, 6-3.
The Owls continue play on Wednesday, March 23, when they host St. John's at 5 p.m.
