Game Two Box Score
BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Rachel Knable went 5-for-6 with a double and sophomore Ali Robinson was 3-for-7 with a triple in a doubleheader loss by the Temple softball team on Tuesday, March 22. The Owls fell host UMBC 8-5 in the opener and 12-4 in the nightcap.
TU held a 4-2 lead in game one entering the bottom of the third inning, but the Retrievers went on to score four unanswered runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Temple got within one, 6-5, in the sixth when Robinson drove in Sarah Prezioso who had walked earlier in the inning. But UMBC scored two more in the bottom of the frame to create the final score. The Owls were not without opportunities, however. The squad pounded out 10 hits and left 11 stranded on the bases.
Knable was 2-for-3 in the game with a double and RBI, Robinson was 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI, and Prezioso was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.
In the second game, the Cherry and White once again had chances to get the offense going, recording nine hits and leaving seven on the base path. UMBC, however, took advantage of its 10 hits, scoring at least one run in each inning of the five-inning game.
TU did finally produce some runs with four in the top of the fourth, but the team was already facing a 9-0 deficit it couldn't overcome.
Knable was 3-for-3, while Melissa Robbins hit a two-run pinch-hit homerun to centerfield for a 1-for-2 day with two RBI.
Temple is 10-14 overall and will be back in action this weekend with four critical Atlantic 10 games. The Owls host conference favorite Massachusetts for single games on Friday and Saturday, before hosting Rhode Island in a doubleheader on Sunday.
