Kristen Marris tossed a four-hitter to earn the win in the opener
Game 1 | Game 2
AMBLER, PA - Temple scored seven first inning runs in the opener of a softball twinbill against six-time defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion UMass and that was all senior pitcher Kristen Marris needed in posting a 7-1 win at Ambler Field Saturday. The Minutewomen broke a 2-2 tie with 10 runs in the final two innings to earn a split with a 12-2 victory in the nightcap.
Freshman catcher Stephanie Pasquale hit a three-run homer, her team-leading third of the season to jump start the Owls offense. Junior Christine Sykora added a two-run single that plated junior Rachel Knable and sophomore Ali Robinson Marris, who had two hits in the game, then helped herself with a RBI single to bring home freshman Devynne Nelons Junior Samantha Schoell than delivered a single to score Sykora for the final run.
Marris (5-7) was masterful in picking up her fifth win of the season. She allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking two.
Robinson had two hits and drove in both runs for the Owls in the second game, but the Cherry and White imploded in the fourth inning. With the score deadlocked, UMass (8-13, 2-2) chased Owls' starter Brooklin White (5-6) with a six-run inning. Sophomore Tees Rogers delivered the big blow with a grand slam.
Fellow freshman hurler Kylie Kristovich relieved White, but also struggled, giving up a grand slam to freshman Tiffany Meeks in the fifth and final inning to account for the scoring.
Temple (11-15, 2-2) continues its conference homestand Sunday with a doubleheader against Rhode Island. The twinbill, which starts at noon, will be videostreamed on OwlAccess.
