AMBLER, PA -
Senior pitcher Kristen Marris tossed her second no-hitter of the season and junior first baseman Rachel Knable homered twice and drove in five runs to lead Temple to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Rhode Island at Ambler Field Sunday afternoon. The Owls, who improve to 13-14, 4-2 in A-10 play, won the opener 10-0 and topped the Rams (1-21, 0-6) 2-1 in the nightcap.

Marris, who also tossed a no-hitter against Delaware on March 15, became just the third Temple player to toss two no-hitters in a season and the first since Jen Crabb accomplished the feat in 1994. She walked just one batter and struck out three over the six-inning game.

Marris also started off the offense with a leadoff single. Freshman shortstop Sarah Prezioso then drove her in with a two-run homer to give the Owls the lead. Temple tacked on three more runs in the third as freshman third baseman Devynne Nelons blasted her fourth homer of the season, a three-run shot that plated sophomore centerfielder Ali Robinson and Knable who each singled with two outs.

After scoring unearned runs in the fourth and fifth innings, Knable ended the game with a three-run shot to center that scored Prezioso and Robinson.

Head coach Joe DiPietro gave the ball again to Marris in the second game she did not disappoint. Marris, who fanned six in game two, allowed just three hits and held the Rams scoreless until Erika Szymanski belted a solo homer in the seventh inning. Knable, who was four-for-six with four runs and five RBI on the day, provided all of the offense for Temple with a two-run homer in the sixth. It was her fourth home run of the season, tying Nelons for the team lead.

Marris, who has won three straight starts, evened her season record to 7-7.

The Owls next travel to Poughkeepskie, NY to take on Marist in a Tuesday twinbill.
