Women's Gymnast Marissa Oxenford Named 2011 ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Owls' senior captain one of four honorees
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Announced by the league after the conference championship, Temple women's gymnast senior Marissa Oxenford has been named a 2011 ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Oxenford shares the honor with Chelsey Binkley of Brown, Maddie Pearsall of Cornell and Megan Wooden of Towson.
Oxenford, a native of West Grove, Pa., was a clear choice for Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Boasting a 3.90 cumulative grade point average as a Kinesiology major, she serves as captain of the 2011 squad and finished tied for fourth on beam at the ECAC Championships.
The ECAC also honors an All-Academic team, which features athletes from every team who sport a cumulative grade point average above a 3.20. Sophomore Ebone Grant, classmate Avery Iudice, Oxenford freshman Nicole Salnikov, senior Chelsea Troutman and sophomore Margaret Walch were all selected to the team.
The Temple women's gymnastics team has some time off before their final competition of the year, the USAG Nationals running April 7-9.
