Temple Crew To Host 29th Annual Murphy Cup Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University men's and women's crews host the 29th Annual Murphy Cup Regatta this Saturday (March 26) on the Schuylkill River. The second largest intercollegiate regatta held on the Schuylkill, the Murphy Cup features competitors from 42 colleges, 33 cities and 10 states. Temple, who placed second last season, will look to best defending champion Jacksonville in the men's Varsity 8 while Bucknell, the winner of the 2010 women's Varsity 8, will look to repeat as well. The Owls' women's Varsity 8 placed sixth last year.
Named after John Murphy, a Temple rower who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in the Summer of 1980, the Murphy Cup Regatta was established in 1982.
The races will kick-off at 9:00 a.m. with the women's Novice 8 heat. Look for the Owls' women's Varsity 8 heat to commence at approximately 1:00 p.m., with the men's Varsity 8 heat immediately following at about 1:24 p.m.
