PHILADELPHIA – With six multiple-goal scorers, Lehigh used a strong offensive attack to hand the Temple lacrosse team an 18-6 loss at home on Thursday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks (5-4) were led by Megan Kelly with four goals, while the Owls (1-7) got a hat trick from junior Jackie Mercer.
Kelly Draper, Anna Patterson and Allison Thomas notched three goals apiece for Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks were on fire for a second straight game after defeating Bucknell by a score of 19-2.
Also scoring for Temple was sophomore Charlotte Swavola and juniors Missy Schweitzer and Karly Cohen.
Lehigh's 10 draw controls in the first half compared to three for Temple helped the Mountain Hawks grab an early 4-0 lead. The Owls matched Lehigh goal-for-goal the rest of the first half but still trailed 8-4 at the break.
Another 4-0 run for Lehigh to start the second half put the Owls in too big a hole to climb out of. Mercer scored back-to-back goals within a minute and a half at 14:57 and 13:27 of the half to put Temple within six, but the Mountain Hawks notched the final six scores of the game.
Lehigh goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick made 16 saves in goal, a season-high. Temple's Tess Bishop finished the game with eight saves.
Temple will play its final non-conference game of the regular season at home on Tuesday, March 29 against Lafayette at 3:00 p.m.
