Owls post sixth win in last seven matches

PHILADELPHIA. – The Temple women's tennis team took down A-10 foe George Washington on Sunday morning at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls improve to 10-6 for the season while GW fell to 10-6.
In doubles play, the senior duo of Theresa Stangl and Christine Clermont got things started with an 8-3 win at first doubles. They were followed by Lucie Pazderova and Elyse Steiner who marked an 8-4 win at second doubles. With the point secured play on court three was stopped with the Owls freshman team of Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina leading 7-4.
In singles, Stangl kept things rolling with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win over George Washington's Jacqui Corba. In second singles, Steiner fell to GW's Julia Blakeley, 6-1, 6-4. However, in six singles Josephine Bergman was able to extend the lead with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory. With the Owls leading 3-1, Pazderova would secure the win for the Owls with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
With the match decided play continued on courts three and four. After winning the first set 6-4 over Mimi Hamling, Doms would drop the second set 6-1 but fight back to win in the deciding tiebreak, 10-8. On court three, Mavrina fell to Leah Pascarella in three sets. After winning the first set 6-2, Mavrina dropped the next two 6-1, 6-2.
The Owls continue play on Wednesday March 30th when they travel to New York to face A-10 foe Fordham at 1:00 pm.
