Owls' Women's Tennis Keeps Winning with 7-0 Route of Fordham

Temple improves to 4-1 over conference foes

BRONX, N.Y. – The Temple women's tennis team continued its success with a dominating 7-0 win over Atlantic 10 foe Fordham. The Owls improve to 11-6 for the season.
In doubles play, the senior duo of Lucie Pazderova and Josephine Bergman got things started with an 8-0 win at third doubles. They were followed by Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina, who beat the Rams' Hanna Fritzinger and Sarah Tremaine, 8-3. The lone loss of the day came at first doubles were Christine Clermont and Theresa Stangl fell to Fordham's Angie Dabu and Mia Fiocca, 8-6.
In singles play, Mavrina extended the lead to 2-0 after the Dabu retired with Temple winning in the second set. Mavrina was leading 6-2, 1-0. She was followed by Mellana Cramer, who dropped just one game in defeating Jennifer Mullen, 6-1,6-0, in the sixth position. Bergman would secure the win for the Owls, defeating Bethany Boyle, 6-1, 6-1, at number five.
With the match decided, play continued on courts one, three and four. In the fourth position Pazderova defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0. Doms would follow with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Tremaine at number three. In first singles, Stangl had little trouble taking down Fiocca, but ultimately prevailed, 6-2, 7-5.
The Owls continue play this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1, before playing Detroit Mercy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
