Women's Tennis Takes 5-2 Match at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team continued its success with a 5-2 win over Duquesne on Friday evening, April 1, 2011. The Owls improve to 12-6 for the season, 5-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
In doubles, the freshman duo of Alicia Doms and Yana Mavrina got things started with an 8-3 win at second doubles. However, in first singles Christine Clermont and Theresa Stangl fell to the Dukes' Sam Noble and Megan O'Sulliven, 8-6. The deciding match came down to third doubles where Josephine Bergman and Lucie Pazderova were able to prevail, defeating Tara Majdalami and Ana Mungo, 8-6.
With Temple leading 1-0, Doms was able to extend the lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles. However, the Dukes were able to get a win on the board at fourth singles, where Pazderova fell to Noble, 6-2, 6-2. In first singles, Stangl had little trouble defeating Ana Mungo, 6-1, 7-5 to push the lead back to 3-1. In second singles, Mavrina lost to Duquesne's Megan O'Sulliven, 6-3, 6-4. With the score 3-2, Bergman was able to secure the win for the Owls with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fifth singles.
With the match decided, play continued on court six. After winning the first set 7-5, Mellana Cramer lost the second in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4), but was able to win the deciding super tiebreak, 10-8.
The Owls continue play Saturday when they face Detroit Mercy at Duquesne at 4 p.m.
