Women's Track & Field Ends Succesful Day One At ECAC Championships

Cowart reaches 500m finals, leads 4x800m to finals

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Assata Cowart qualified for the 500m finals and led the 4x800m relay team to a finals qualifying time as the Temple women's track & field team competed at the ECAC Championships in the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday afternoon. Cowart punched her ticket to the 500m finals with the fourth fastest qualifying time of the day (1:14.06).

The Temple women's 4x800m relay team - Shadaya Bennett, Tashima Stephens, Tonney Smith and Cowart - made their presence felt and qualified for Sunday's final with a time of 9:03.54.

The 4x400m relay also fared well, also qualifying for the finals. Freshman Ambrosia Iwugo, senior Paris Williams and sophomores Sheina Roberts and Jade Wilson combined for a time of 3:47.99.

Iwugo ran 57.45 in the 400m to place 16th in qualifying action, also placing 15th in the 200m dash prelims (25.10). Junior Alanna Owens placed 14th in the shot put with a toss of 43-00.25.

Day two beings tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. with the distance medley relay.
